Windows 12 is the new rumor in the market and everyone is curious about it. We believe Windows 12 will be released in the second half of 2024. In this article, we will explain the discussions, statements, and the “most probable” expectations for the much anticipated operating system. Other than this, we will express our opinion on the OS.
Windows 12: Release Date, Features, and Pricing
1] Windows 12 Release Date
We believe Windows 12 will be released in the second half of 2024 for the following reasons:
- Windows 10 was released 3 years after Windows 8 and Windows 11 was released 6 years after Windows 10. However, considering the fact that Windows 11 wasn’t acknowledged well by the public (with 71.23% of people still running Windows 10), Windows 12 should be released in 2024.
- The end-of-support date for Windows 10 has been announced in 2025. This means they will need a backup for users to upgrade to. Users are unhappy with Windows 11, so Windows 12 would most probably be on the table are a worthy alternative.
- Satya Nadella mentioned his intention of replacing the Start button with Copilot. This is not possible with the current operating system since it will change the basic frame of Windows 11. Thus, a whole new operating system is needed.
- Microsoft has indicated that a major shift to AI-based PCs is impending. This is only possible if they introduce a new operating system. Such a massive change cannot be rolled out to Windows 11 even through a featured update.
2] Windows 12 Features
Windows 12 will be based on AI and this has been confirmed by countless sources and arguments. The features would be as follows:
- We are expecting a full-fledged version of Microsoft CoPilot for Windows 12. As of present, the version of CoPilot is merely a preview. Other than this, Microsoft introduced a web app for CoPilot. However, no Desktop app is in line for Windows 11 yet.
- Microsoft CoPilot will replace the Start button.
- Microsoft CoPilot will probably be available for Microsoft Office Home and Family too.
- Most AI tools we know of will have Microsoft-created versions and will be available as a part of the operating system.
- Windows 12 will be based on AI and most of the services will be free of cost. Some will be premium.
3] Windows 12 Compatibility
When Windows 11 was launched, existing users didn’t acknowledge it well. The reason was that the system requirements for Windows 11 were significantly higher than those for Windows 10. This meant people would have to buy newer expensive computers. Users preferred to use the older Windows 10 and Windows 11 wasn’t a hit.
I personally expect worse for Windows 12. Since Windows 12 will be full of AI-based applications, it will have way higher system requirements than Windows 11. Will users buy it just to access AI?
Interestingly, it’s more than half a year since ChatGPT was launched. While the tool was a craze upon launch, people got bored of it pretty soon. There are countless AI tools available on the internet for cheap. Why would a user invest in buying an expensive computer just to access AI?
4] Windows 12 Pricing
I believe Windows 12 will be priced much higher than Windows 11. Definitely not equal or less. The reason is that they will be adding many new AI-based features to the operating system and these features would be free of cost. Thus, Microsoft will expect you to pay for the OS itself.
5] Windows Desktop UI
When I read through Windows 12 rumors over the internet, I really appreciate the imagination of the authors for creating their own version of Desktop UI for Windows 12. As mentioned earlier, CoPilot will replace the Start button in Windows 12. This means it will probably be the exact same mistake Windows 8 was. I hope Microsoft doesn’t do this, but well, it is Microsoft.
